Questions
Loft & Garage Conversions FAQs
Can't find what you're looking for? Call us on the number above — we're happy to help.
Ask a questionWill I need planning permission?
Many loft and garage conversions are permitted development, but it depends on your property and the design. We will advise and help where permission is needed.
Is my loft suitable for conversion?
Most are, but head height, roof structure and access all matter. We will assess your loft and tell you honestly what is possible.
Do conversions need building regulations approval?
Yes. Conversions must meet building regulations for structure, fire safety and insulation, which we handle through to sign-off.
Is a loft or garage conversion cheaper than an extension?
Usually, yes. Because the basic shell already exists you are not building from the ground up, so conversions often give you extra room for less than an extension. We will quote both ways if you are weighing them up.
Can the new room be used as a bedroom with an en-suite?
In most cases yes. We can add an en-suite where the plumbing and space allow, and build the room to the standards needed for it to count as a proper bedroom, including fire safety and escape.
How much disruption is there during a conversion?
A loft conversion keeps most of the work upstairs and outside until the staircase goes in, while a garage conversion is fairly self-contained. You can usually stay living at home throughout, and we will warn you about the noisier stages.
