Questions

Plastering FAQs

Ask a question
How long before I can paint new plaster?

Fresh plaster needs to dry fully — usually several days to a couple of weeks depending on conditions — before it is sealed and painted. We will advise on timings for your job.

Can you plaster over artex?

Yes, in most cases we can skim straight over artex to give you a smooth, modern finish.

Do you skim over old walls or take them back first?

It depends on the condition of the existing surface. If it is sound we can skim over it for a smooth finish; if it is blown or crumbling we take it back and re-plaster so the new surface has something solid to bond to.

Can you repair cracks and patch damaged plaster?

Yes. We fill and repair cracks, fix damage around removed fixtures and make good after other work, blending the repair into the surrounding wall so it does not show once painted.

How much disruption does plastering cause?

A room being skimmed is usually out of action for a day or two plus drying time. It is a wet, slightly messy job, so we sheet up and clear away, but you will want to keep the room clear while it dries.
